Mego initially released five brand new figures for their first series of Star Trek characters in 1974. Lt. Uhura was added to the Series 1 roster in early 1975. All Series 1 figures were re-released each year that Mego produced Star Trek toys.

Mego became famous for their 8” scale figures with interchangeable bodies. Eventually this became an industry standard. Mego Corporation re-launched in 2018 with a partnership between Marty Abrams and Joel Rosenzweig, focusing on 8” Action figures and launching with popular licenses from CBS, Warner Brothers, Sony and Epic.

These cards were later amended to include Lt. Uhura as the late, feminist-conscious addition to the first series. Her profile was added to the line-up, and the "Star Trek" logo was changed to a more colorful light blue.

Lieutenant Nyota Uhura was a Starfleet communications officer serving in the 23rd century, under the command of Captain James Kirk. She was known to entertain members of the U.S.S. Enterprise crew, as she had a beautiful singing voice and would play the Vulcan harp.
