The Met Office has issued multiple yellow weather warnings as Storm Herminia, named by the Spanish meteorological office, batters the UK.

Storm Herminia has unleashed powerful winds of up to 83mph across Britain as well as prolonged rainfall, as Met Office weather warnings remain in place for most of England and Wales. More than 50 flood warnings have been issued by the Environment Agency,

Storm Éowyn is forecast to make landfall in Ireland late on Thursday before moving on to the rest of the UK on Friday according to Met Office models. The storm will bring gusts of 80mph to coastal areas and 60mph inland with potential for a danger to life caused by flying debris.

The Met Office recommends keeping essentials such as warm clothes, food, and water in cars due to the likelihood of travel delays.

The winds due to sweep through parts of the UK from Friday could go over 80mph in some areas, the Met Office warned as it named its fifth storm since October.

Drivers and households must gather together warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, an in-car phone charger, as well as torches, batteries and mobile phone power packs.

Hundreds of homes are without power and flood alerts have been issued as Storm Herminia hits Wales. A Met Office alert for heavy rain began at midday Sunday and remains in place until the end of Monday.
