New Minnesota rideshare rates went into effect on December 1, but many Uber and Lyft drivers say it hasn’t translated into a boost in pay.

While the minimum rate is lower than those initially passed by Minneapolis City Council and those proposed in the Minnesota Legislature by Sen. Omar Fateh and Rep. Hodan Hassan, it still represents a 20% pay increase for rideshare drivers.

Uber and Lyft drivers pushed nearly two years for better wages. An Uber spokeswoman said riders may see a price increase as high as 25%.

On Dec. 1, employees of rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft will get $1.28 and .31 cents per minute statewide.

A law passed in May now requires that transportation network company drivers earn a minimum of $1.28 per minute and 31 cents per mile.
