President-elect Donald Trump’s choice of Tulsi Gabbard as U.S. intelligence chief has sent shockwaves through the national security establishment, adding to concerns that the sprawling intelligence community will become increasingly politicized.

Trump's pick of Tulsi Gabbard as the next Director of National Intelligence has left members of the intelligence community reeling, with some considering quitting if she ends up in the role.

Gabbard, who was a Democrat until 2022 but critical of her party long before that, endorsed Trump in the 2024 election. In a statement announcing her selection, Trump said that Gabbard would bring a “a fearless spirit” to the intelligence agencies and secure “peace through strength.”
