Australia won the toss and elected to field in the first one-day international against Pakistan. Pat Cummins, who hasn’t played for Australia since the T20 World Cup in June, returns to lead the side while Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head are on paternity leave for the three-match series.

It had looked as though Pakistan were set to steal a march on Australia in the first of their three-match ODI series, with Pakistan setting a target of 203 runs.

Pat Cummins' Australia survived a burst from the Pakistani pace attack and won the Melbourne ODI by two wickets on Monday, thereby taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
