Minnesota state Senator Omar Fateh announced Monday that he will run for Minneapolis mayor in 2025 against Jacob Frey.

Fateh, 34, became the first Somali American and first Muslim to serve in the Senate when he was first elected in 2020.

Minneapolis residents will be faced with another pivotal ballot in November, as all 13 city council seats and the position of mayor will be up for grabs.
