California will seek to relaunch subsidies of electric vehicles if Republicans in Washington follow through on repealing a $7,500 credit.

The funding could come from polluters under the state’s cap-and-trade program, which pays costs ultimately passed onto energy consumers.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said the state will provide rebates to residents if President-elect Donald Trump's incoming administration does away with a federal tax credit for electric vehicles.
