A jury in Panama City, Florida, on Friday found that CNN defamed a U.S. Navy veteran in a 2021 story about people paid to rescue endangered Afghans following the Taliban takeover of the country

A Florida jury found CNN liable Friday for defaming a Navy vet who assisted multiple people in escaping Afghanistan after the 2021 American withdrawal. Zachary Young filed a $1 billion suit against the network on June 12 over a November 2021 segment by reporter Alex Marquardt that aired on “The Lead with Jake Tapper” that portrayed his evacuation

The jury deliberated for more than eight hours starting before ruling in favor of Zachary Young in his defamation suit against CNN.
