The University of Arizona athletic director has apologized to Brigham Young University after some men's basketball fans were heard chanting a slur against Mormons following the Wildcats' emotional 1-point loss to the Cougars at the McKale Center in Tucson.

In 2010, during a BYU game at San Diego State, Aztecs students showed up dressed in the modest conservative style of students on a mission, wearing white shirts, bicycle helmets and name tags. Near the end of the game, fans started to chant, “You’re still Mormon.”

While BYU basketball players were still on the floor Saturday night following an upset win over No. 19 Arizona in Tucson, fans rained down a derogatory chant targeting the Utah-based school's religious ties.
