Alfa might not be all-electric by 2027, but the Italian automaker is reportedly ditching its storied Giulia sedan.

The Italian marque planned to go fully electric in 2027 but will now continue offering gas powertrains as it plots a radical reimagining of the Giulia sedan.

The new Alfa Romeo Stelvio is due this spring and the next Giulia will follow in 2026 as a fastback crossover. Both will utilize the new Dodge Charger platform

The news comes by way of an interview with Alfa Romeo / Maserati CEO Santo Ficili, who took the helm at the automaker back in October 2024. While detailing the brand’s upcoming model push through 2030, Ficili made mention of a new Stelvio coming for 2025, and that the Giulia will follow in 2026.

Alfa Romeo won’t launch a new hatchback, leaving the Tonale as its sole offering in the compact segment. The CEO of the Italian brand confirmed that the Giulietta won’t be part of the future Alfa Romeo lineup, because customers want SUVs.

Rather than another conventional-bodied upright SUV, Alfa could be looking at something more stylish for this one by way of a crossover coupe. The style, popularized by the BMW X6 and a host of Mercedes-Benz SUV Coupe and Audi Sportback models, is less stodgy than the usual SUV, and that suits the brand's character well.

Alfa Romeo is the latest automaker to revise its EV strategy. It no longer plans to be a fully electric automaker by 2027. Instead, the brand intends to offer a mix of EV, hybrid, and combustion vehicles, according to Alfa’s North American boss Chris Feuell.
