The Navy Midshipmen women lost their first two games of the season as they hosted their own four-team classic over the weekend.

Kaylene Smikle scored 16 points and made a couple of key baskets down the stretch to help the No. 10 Maryland women’s basketball team hold off George Mason, 66-56, in a matchup of unbeatens Saturday afternoon at the Navy Classic in Annapolis.

The Terrapins are 6-0 in non-conference play. Maryland ranks fourth in the Big Ten with 13.8 offensive rebounds per game led by Christina Dalce averaging 4.0. The Patriots are 6-0 in non-conference play. George Mason is ninth in the A-10 with 23.3 defensive rebounds per game led by Nalani Kaysia averaging 5.5.
