Before the game, the domed roof at AT&T Stadium could be seen being opened, something that hasn't happened for a Cowboys game in over two years. Unfortunately, plans to play the game under the night sky in Arlington were foiled after a metal sheet fell off the roof, forcing the stadium to close the dome back up.

Before Monday night, the stadium's retractable roof hadn't been opened for a Cowboys home game since October 2022.

In 16 seasons at AT&T Stadium, the Cowboys are 50-32 when the building is completely closed. They are 12-11 when the roof and doors are open. They are 2-5 when the roof is open but the doors are closed. They are 10-3 when the roof is closed but the doors are open.

The Dallas Cowboys were planning to play with the AT&T Stadium roof open for the first time since 2022, but a large piece of metal fell from the roof as it was being opened nearly three hours before kickoff against the Houston Texans on Monday night.

The adage holds that “there’s no place like home.” The Dallas Cowboys might have a bone to pick with that adage. The 2024 season has been less than kind to the Cowboys, who fell to 3-7 in a 34-10 loss to the Houston Texans on Monday Night Football.

On Monday, the Cowboys played the fake punt card right off the top. On the first drive, the Cowboys faced fourth-and-9 from their own 33-yard line. This time, Anger threw the ball and completed it in the middle to Juanyeh Thomas, but the safety was tackled well short of the first-down marker.

The Houston Texans (6-4) and Dallas Cowboys (3-6), both on losing streaks, will meet on Monday Night Football. Kickoff is 7:15 p.m.

After building AT&T Stadium at a cost of more than $1 billion with a retractable roof, the Dallas Cowboys have used the feature just 30 times out of 126 regular season home games and never since October 2022.

Ahead of the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans squaring off on Monday Night Football, a large piece of sheet metal fell to the AT&T Stadium playing surface while the retractable roof was being opened during pregame. Stadium officials have since made the decision to close the roof for tonight’s game.
