No one left this year’s United Nations climate conference happy, but the talks were still an important marker.

Billed as the "finance COP," the 29th UN climate change summit (otherwise known as COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, was expected to provide the money to enable the transition away from fossil fuels announced at last year's COP28.

A representative for Cuba, which has suffered from devastating hurricanes, noted the pledge of $300 billion represented less than the previous goal of $100 billion agreed more than a decade ago, taking into account inflation.
