Warming centers are opening across Florida as a major cold front brings dangerously low temperatures to the region.

Temperatures slowly moderate through the week as a ridge of high pressure starts to build in. That'll keep things pleasant and dry for the first half of the workweek. Afternoon readings rebounded into the lower to middle 60s by Tuesday with highs in the 70s Wednesday.

A strong cold front moves into Central Florida Sunday, bringing rain chances, wind gusts to 35 mph, and much colder air. Freeze Watch issued for most areas; warnings in Sumter & Marion counties. Lows could reach freezing Monday morning before a warmup mid-week.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said iguanas can become either immobilized or sluggish when temperatures hit between 40 and 50 degrees. Longer cold snaps with overcast skies that prevent basking for warmth can be deadly as the paralyzed iguanas become easy prey to vultures, bobcats and coyotes.

Two back-to-back cold fronts are expected to sweep across Florida this week and weekend, bringing with it near-freezing morning temperatures to parts of Orlando and Central Florida. Near the Florida-Georgia state line,

Fifty-three of Florida's 67 counties were under a freeze watch Wednesday morning, as a strong cold front moves through the state.

While significant weather changes are approaching Michigan, most of the Lower Peninsula will see relatively modest snow accumulations of one to three inches. The exception will be specific areas in the lake-effect snow belt,

Seasonally cool temperatures and dry weather will return late Friday through the weekend as high pressure becomes re- established. Another cold front may affect the state by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. High Surf Advisory remains posted for most north and west shores. Two more XL warning level NW swells are due on Thursday and Sunday.

Houston is visited by the latest cold front, bringing chilly weather Thursday. Another cold front this weekend could leave the area under frost.
