Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Tuesday sharply criticized U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's threat to impose a 25% tariff on all imported goods from Canada and Mexico, calling the proposal a potentially disastrous distraction from meaningful solutions to drug trafficking and mass migration.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said she would send a letter to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday to urge dialogue and cooperation following his threat of across-the-board tariffs of 25% on Mexico and Canada.

PRESIDENT Claudia Sheinbaum said Mexico could retaliate with its own tariffs on Tuesday, after US President-elect Donald Trump threatened to impose 25 per cent import duties on Mexican goods. Mr Trump said he was making the threat to force Mexico to stop drugs and migrants from flowing across the border.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Tuesday that Mexico would raise tariffs on imports from the United States if President-elect Donald Trump follows through on his threat to issue a 25% tariff on Mexican imports after taking office.

The president-elect says he would impose tariffs on all imports from Canada and Mexico, which could hurt the auto industry.
