Earlier this month, Volkswagen issued a recall for 98,806 ID.4 electric crossovers due to a door handle water ingress problem. As of September 18, however, the issue has escalated, with VW issuing a stop-sale order and a production halt of the EV SUV.

Volkswagen announced it will temporarily suspend production of the ID.4 at its Chattanooga plant following a nationwide recall that affects Chattanooga workers.

Volkswagen will pause production of the all-electric ID.4 at its plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, from September 23 as it looks to fix an ongoing issue impacting tens of thousands of vehicles.

Volkswagen is recalling 98,806 of its ID.4 electric vehicles due to defective door handles that could cause doors to open unexpectedly.

In addition to 98,806 units in the US market, Volkswagen also has to fix a further 20,602 examples of the ID.4 in Canada

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that Volkswagen is recalling nearly 99,000 electric crossover SUVs because the doors could open unexpectedly.
