Syrian insurgents captured four new towns early Tuesday, bringing them closer to the central city of Hama, opposition activists said, while government forces retook some territory they lost last week.

Syrian rebels launched a surprise attack on Saturday and quickly advanced through several provinces in the north and northwest of Syria, including the city of Aleppo, the country’s second largest city.
