Most of the creature work on Coralie Fargeat's body horror hit was old-school practical effects but for the final shots of the movie, the director mixed on-set constructions with digital magic.

Mubi is rereleasing The Substance in theaters Friday. The film initially opened in theaters in September following its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. News of the rerelease follows Demi Moore's Golden Globe win for Best Actress for her performance in the film.

Hollywood star Margaret Qualley has revealed that the prosthetics she wore in the critically-acclaimed horror movie “The Substance” caused so much damage to her skin that it took about a year to recover.

Her costar, Demi Moore, previously revealed that her prosthetics work could take over nine hours a day — with up to 14 pieces “glued” to her face alone.
