This season, Moeller star junior quarterback Matt Ponatoski hopes to join the club. Ponatoski would be the fourth Cincinnati-area athlete in the past six seasons to win the award after the Queen City and its surrounding areas were shut out from 1993 to 2018.

The winner will be announced on Dec. 5 at the Division II state championship game at Canton's Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.

The most recent Northeast Ohio player to be named Mr. Football was Archbishop Hoban running back Lamar Sperling in 2022. Fifteen different area teens have received the honor over the last 37 years, including Euclid's Robert Smith and North Canton Hoover's Erick Howard twice each.

The Ohio Prep Sports Media Association has announced the finalists for the 2024 Ohio Mr. Football Award.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Three standout local quarterbacks are among 8 finalists named Wednesday for Ohio’s Mr. Football award. Scotty Fox of Mentor, Nolan Good of Avon and Keller Moten of Walsh Jesuit all made the list. The winner will be announced December 5 and is chosen by the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Moeller junior quarterback Matt Ponatoski was named Wednesday morning as an Ohio Mr. Football finalist by the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association. Ponatoski, Moeller’s all-time career passing yards leader, is one of eight finalists for the Mr. Football award, which has been which has been presented on an annual basis since 1987.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced Wednesday its finalists for its annual Mr. Football award, which is determined by statewide panels that select all-district teams before a vote of media across the state.
