Counter-terrorism police have arrested six people and a community centre is temporarily closed as part of an investigation into the banned Kurdistan Workers Party. The group, known as the PKK, is classed as a terrorist organisation in the UK and the arrests came amid a “significant” police probe into potential terrorist activity.

The Metropolitan Police said two women, aged 59 and 31, and four men, aged 27, 62, 56 and 23, were arrested at separate addresses in the early hours of Wednesday. They have all been detained under the Terrorism Act and are in custody at a London police station.
