A missile was launched from Yemen into central Israel on Sunday morning, according to the Israeli military, in a rare instance of a missile penetrating so far into the country’s territory since its war in Gaza began.

Soon after war broke out in October between Israel and Hamas, the Islamist group designated a terrorist organization by the US and European Union, the Houthi rebels who control northwestern Yemen joined in.

The Yemeni rebels, known as Houthis, have repeatedly fired drones and missiles toward Israel since the start of the war in Gaza, but nearly all of them have been intercepted over the Red Sea.
