Formula One will expand to 11 teams with the addition of the Cadillac team in 2026. It's the first time General Motors will compete in the Formula One World Championship.

General Motors has a deal to join Formula 1 under the Cadillac brand and participate in the FIA Formula One World Championship for the 2026 season, the automaker announced on Monday. Formula 1 says it has accepted in principle and will move GM and Cadillac's application forward to become the 11th team on the grid — making it the first new team to join since 2016.

The 11th team will be called Cadillac F1 and be run by new Andretti Global majority owners Dan Towriss and Mark Walter.

General Motors will become the 11th team on the Formula One grid for the 2026 season after agreeing a deal in principle with the sport's owners Liberty Media. The US carmaker plans to enter its Cadillac brand and said it had also registered with the governing FIA as a power unit manufacturer to become a full works outfit by the end of the decade.
