Colorado State women’s volleyball coach Emily Kohan has affirmed her team’s participation in the Mountain West championship final against San Jose State, despite a season marred by controversy over a transgender athlete on SJSU’s roster.

The CSU volleyball team will play in the NCAA Tournament after the Rams beat San Jose State to win the Mountain West title.

The Spartans had first-round bye, then advanced to the championship match when Boise State forfeited a semifinal.

Kohan is in her second season coaching the Rams, who needed a strong hire to replace Tom Hilbert, who was named conference Coach of the Year 12 times. She helped the Rams to an outright conference championship one season after leading the program to a runner-up finish in both the regular season and conference tournament.
