UK prime minister blamed ‘very bad situation’ inherited from Conservatives for failure to provide stadium in time

BRITISH PRIME MINISTER Keir Starmer has not ruled out his government helping to fund the rebuild of the derelict GAA stadium Casement Park. Last week, the UK government announced that it would not fund the redevelopment of the Belfast stadium in time for the Euros in 2028, which will be hosted by Ireland and the UK.

Casement Park in Belfast has been stripped of its status as a Euro 2028 host stadium as the UK government cannot commit to providing the funding for it to be built in time for the tournament. The government state there is “significant risk” the stadium would not be completed in time and estimated the project could now cost over £400million.

With less than four years to go until Euro 2028, construction work has yet to start at Casement Park as questions continue around the stadium.
