Two British Transport Police (BTP) officers have been taken to hospital after being "exposed" to a corrosive alkaline substance during an incident at Surbiton railway station, south west London. They suffered injuries after approaching two people they believed to be acting suspiciously at about 16:20 GMT on Friday.

Two teenagers have been arrested after a suspected alkaline attack left two police officers in hospital and closed a busy railway station for hours. Officers from British Transport Police were at Surbiton station at around 4.20pm on Friday afternoon (November 29) when the incident occurred.
