There is a lot of fear-mongering and sensationalism surrounding the Marburg disease or Bleeding Eye virus that is raging in Rwanda, and has likely spread to other African countries. There is meanwhile a newer facet to it that the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned the public about.

One of the three viruses spreading in multiple countries has been dubbed the 'bleeding eye virus' because of one of the most serious symptoms. 'Bleeding eye virus' is a name given to Marburg, 'severe hemorrhagic fever that can cause serious illness and death' as per the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Travel Health Pro, a platform run by the UK Health Security, has issued an advisory to travelers to reduce the spread of bleeding eye virus in several countries, including Rwanda, Central Africa Republic, Burundi, Congo, Gabon, Uganda, Brazil, Kenya, Bolivia, Cuba, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, and Guyana.
