It's officially been over a week since Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews last played a game. The veteran sniper was placed on the injured reserve with an upper-body injury last week and his outlook has been up in the air since then.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have already been without captain Auston Matthews for one game, and it could be an even longer absence.

The Maple Leafs are 37-19-2 all-time when Matthews has been unavailable since he entered the League in the 2016-17 season. He missed two games during the Eastern Conference First Round last season because of an illness and undisclosed injury, and one game during the regular season because of the flu.

Following Berube's reveal, NHL insider Chris Johnston reported that the Maple Leafs added Matthews to the injured reserve. The move is retroactive to Sunday, and since IR players must miss at least seven games of action, he won't be able to face the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, either.

The Maple Leafs have played the last two games without captain Auston Matthews, and the latest update isn't encouraging.
