Fascinating project. Displaced lots of people but no longer the loss of life with major flooding. Generates lots of clean energy. Amazing boat elevator. Worth the time.Full review by 391gloriav

Hi, I have a plan to Lichuan and Wanzhou and would like to travel along 3 gorges downstream to Yichang. Does it have passenger ferry or Cruise service from nearby pier? Fengjie, Wanzhou, etc. I don't want waste the time get back to Chongqing to start. I can simple communicate in Chinese, so local boat is no problem. Thanks in advance.

i do not think you can see three gorge dam on a ferry. For the dam being restricted area there are land tours available.For sailing through 3 gorges cruise service is available.

if you just want to see the dam, it is accessible from the land. although i am not sure how you'd organize that as a foreigner. yichang is not any where to where the dam is and where …

if you just want to see the dam, it is accessible from the land. although i am not sure how you'd organize that as a foreigner. yichang is not any where to where the dam is and where the cruise ships were parked. we had to take a long taxi ride (more than an hour) to get to where our cruise ship was. then we got bused to the dam as part of cruise deal.

Hi, My wife and I did a 11-day Golden Triangle & Yangtze River Cruise tour with Travel China Guide (TCG) in June, 2016. We were totally impressed with the TCG tour, although not overly impressed with the Yangtze River cruise part of it. TCG passes you onto a cruise company and picks you up at the end of the cruise. So, the not-so-great experience with the River cruise is not TCG's fault. My take on it is that, no matter which company you book your cruise with, it's unlikely that the cruise itself will turn out to be superlative. It's the nature of the beast with China still trying to come up to snuff in their tourism industry. However, the shore excursions during the cruise included in TCG's tour package were pretty good if you don't allow yourself to be suckered into buying everything the various tour guides recommend, sometimes fairly persuasively. The Dam visit was the most impressive of them. Here, China showcases her engineering prowess for the whole world to marvel at. From my experience, the Hoover Dam in the U.S. pales in comparison. Hence, I recommend booking with TCG. You can Google "Travel China Guide Cruises". On the results page, select the hyperlink titled "China Cruises: Private & Small Group Yangtze ... - Travel China Guide". Under that link, you might find what you are looking for under "Three Gorges Exploration (YR01)". Good luck!
