I have been burning wood in it for about 22 years and it works well. I like the ash pan and use the shaker grates to keep the draft going.

WEBDec 21, 2011 · Asking about settings...this should be covered in your owners manual or you should be able to ask the manufacturer. If neither is available...90 for shut off seems a little low to me..it may cause you to run too much cool air over the heat exchanger. We run ours at 125 degrees F. 135 also seems a little low.

WEBFeb 14, 2012 · I am not familiar with Ashley stoves. I would venture to say the neighborhood of 600-650 would be the optimal operating temp for an extended period of time. I would let 'er rip to the 600 range and start closing it off, the temperature will increase slightly. I personally would NOT let the temp stay above 700 for any real lenght of time.

Jotul makes a great stove - I've got a 602, and my brother burns with a F600 Fireview and they are both excellent. I would think that for $1,200, you could do much better with a F400 or something similar.
